Pseudomonas in Orthopedic Infection
You Kie-Bum

Yoon Yeon-Joong
Abstract
90 strains of Pseudomonas aerogicpsa were isolated from various orthopedic conditions, infected with pseudomonas alone or in combination with other organisms during the 2 year period from Aug. 1971 to July 1973. The emergence of drug resistance are discussed for these bacteriological isolates after antibiotic sensitivity test. Antibiotics used for sensitivity test are penicillin. ampicillin: cloxacillin. chlorampenicol. erythromycin, streptomycin, kanamycin and gentamicin. Among these antibiotics, gentamicin was found to have good activity against pseudomonas, while others have become unreliable to use therapeutically. There is also a trend of gradual increase of drug resistant Gram-negative bacilli as a. causative organism. This is particulary true of wound infection in which Pseudomonas xems to prevail.
